Plant-based diets are known to help lower risks of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, and other chronic diseases, but if not planned carefully, these diets can lead to certain nutritional deficiencies. Riley Thornton, RDN, from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, discusses how dietitians can appropriately counsel patients who follow vegan and vegetarian diets.
