To irrigate a contaminated wound quickly, punch 3 holes in the lid of a 500-mL container of normal saline with a 14- or 16-gauge sterile needle. Invert the bottle and squeeze. The pressure generated by squeezing the pliable container provides an effective rinse.  ■
